Each school district belongs to a Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The SELPAs create special education programs for children in need. They have early infant programs for children under three years of age, and special education classes for children age three and up. The districts also provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, parent training, and other related services. If a district does not have a service that your child needs, they will contract out to a county program, or pay for a private non-public service. The school districts are obligated by law to provide a free and appropriate education for a child with autism or pervasive developmental disorder (PDD-NOS).
Note: Elk Grove, Sacramento City, and San Juan are all single district SELPAs. All other SELPAs incorporate multiple districts within their SELPAs County of Colusa Linda Wallace, SELPA Director (x10806) Colusa County Office of Education Special Education Annex 946 Fremont Street Colusa, CA 95932 (530) 458-8891; (530) 458-5764 fax | County of El Dorado Emi Johnson, SELPA Director El Dorado County Office of Education 6767 Green Valley Road Placerville, CA 95667 (530) 622-7130; (530) 295-2228; (530) 621-2543; (530) 621-1397 fax | County of Sacramento Judy Holsinger, SELPA Director Sacramento County Office of Education 10474 Mather Blvd. P.
