FEAT Family Empowerment Forum 1-3pm, third Sunday of each month, no meetings in June and December, childcare is not available
Ajay's Karate 8785 Center Parkway, Suite B-310 Sacramento, CA
Meetings are open to parents and family members with an interest in individuals on the autism spectrum including PDD-NOS and Asperger Syndrome. Meetings are designed to provide information to families in addition to a network of support where families can meet each other and discuss issues surrounding autism, advocacy and treatment options.
Do you wish you know more about your rights? Do you want to know more about what the law advocates for people with disabilities? Do you want to improve your knowledge and ability to advocate for your child?
NOTE: “FEAT makes every effort to protect the privacy of families, with this promise in mind, we do not allow anyone employed by a regional center, school district or are in receipt of financial benefit from the provision of services to people with autism, to attend or participate in parents’ only meetings. Parents who are employed by a regional center, DDS, a regional center related organization, school district, education related organization or other education agency or receive financial benefit from the provision of services to people with autism, must make a request to the FEAT Board for approval to attend parents’ only meetings and functions and to participate in parents’ only activities. If you are a parent who falls within this category, please send an email to the FEAT board through the FEAT website to request one-to-one mentoring or to request consideration for a case-by-case exemption to our privacy practice.” read more ... FEAT Parent Resource Meetings
Resource Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month (No meeting in August).
Meeting Location:
UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute
2825 50th St.
Sacramento, CA 95817
Next Meeting: July 16, 2008
Topic: How the Hearing System Works
Presenter: Sharieann Laba, Lead Hearing Judge
Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH)
This presentation will provide information to parents on how the hearing systems works. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation. This will give parents an opportunity to ask question about the hearing process directly from the hearing judges. Since OAH has taken over the contract with CDE the number of student prevailing cases has dropped by 50%. This has significantly impacted the services our children receive.
*** It is critical that parents attend this meeting. ***
